Love Story 2...

Sayyidatina Fatimah & Sayyidina Ali R.A.

The wedding was joyous and simple and all of the Muslims agreed that Fatima and Ali were made for each other. In fact earlier, her father had told her that he had married her to the best man among his family… Fatimah smile at that thought… She too had agreed to be the wife of Ali, the boy whom she had grown up with in the Prophet’s house…

The women of Ansar clothed the bride in new garments and sprayed her with perfume the Prophet had purchased with the dowry given by Ali…
The women presented Fatima to Ali in two robes. The first had silver rings colored with saffron… When they entered Ali’s house, there was a sheepskin on a bench, a cushion stuffed with fibre, a waterskin, a sieve, a napkin and a cup…
The Prophet was overjoyed with the union. He took the hand of Fatima and put in Ali and prayed for them, “May Allah bring happiness to the beloved daughter of His Prophet!”

Nevertheless, marriage life was not without its problems…
As ideal as the union between the two souls of Ali and Fatimah, they had quarreled at times before…

Ali was a young man who possessed little in terms of material. Till one day he complained to his wife, “I have drawn water until my chest hurts…”
“Allah has given your father spoils of war… so go on and ask from him a servant”…
His young wife sighed. “I too have ground flour until my hands are blistered… I shall go to the Prophet.”

The first time she came to her father’s house, she was greeted and kissed as usual by him. But when he asked why she had come, she was too shy to say to him…
And when her husband asked, she replied, “I was too shy to ask my father…”

The second time, she came with Ali…
And the Prophet asked them again, “O my two most beloved, what is it that you want?”
Ali then replied, “Messenger of Allah, I have drawn water till my chest hurts”
“Änd I have ground flour till my hands are blistered… Please give us a servant,” continued Fatimah.

The Prophet looked at them both… A young couple who just discovered how hard it is to earn a living… Yet…
“By Allah, I will not give to you and leave the People of the Suffa in hunger…”, the Prophet replied. “I have spent the booty on them to feed…”

Ali and Fatimah both looked down…
Clearly, disappointed and ashamed…
But the Prophet loved both of them most and always wanted to please them.
“Shall I tell you what is better than you ask?” the Prophet said.

As the two looked up into the radiance of his face, they saw that the Prophet was smiling. And his smile lit up the very light on his pure face…
Ali and Fatimah returned his smile. “Yes indeed,” they replied.

The Prophet taught them knowledge like how he always did when they were both children…
“Jibril taught me some words. After every prayer, say ‘Glory be to Allah’ ten times, ‘Praise be to Allah’ ten times and ‘Allah is Great’ ten times. When you retire to your bed, say the three again, 33 times each”.
Ali narrated, “By Allah, I have never omitted them since the Messenger of Allah taught them to me.”

There were also times when they clashed because of temperamental differences.
Ali was a young man who had a soul of a warrior. And at times, he was harsh towards his wife, whom he had seemed to have forgotten that she was a woman, after all… Sensitive, and wanted to be loved and cared for…

She was hurt by Ali one day, who had picked up a quarrel with her, and aggrieved, she went to the Holy Prophet to complain about her husband’s conduct.
Ali followed her and hid behind a wall to listen what was transpired between the Holy Prophet and Fatima. The Holy Prophet advised Fatima to have patience and submit to her husband.

When Ali saw the Holy Prophet later, the Prophet counselled him to be kind to his wife.

Due to the wise counsels of the Messenger who loved both Ali and Fatima, the couple succeeded in making adjustments which insured mutual happiness.
Hasan, their first child was born in 625 C.E. and Husain, the second child was born in 626 C.E. The Holy Prophet had great love for Hasan and Husain and treated them as his own sons.
